Santorini
Claimed by many to be the most beautiful of the Greek islands, Santorini is the exposed tip of an enormous submerged volcano. Dormant for thousands of years now, the last eruption in about 1600BC was one of the largest volcanic explosions known to us. The resultant tsunami is believed to be responsible for the destruction of the Minoan civilisation on Crete, 70 miles to the south. Some say this is also the site of Atlantis.
