Ironstone Kilns
Iron ore was mined from the sides of Rosedale and Farndale during the 18th and 19th centuries. At the top of Rosedale Chimney are the remains of kilns that roasted the iron ore to drive off water and carbon dioxide gas to concentrate the iron-ore before transportation to the Teesside-Middlesbrough blast furnaces.
