Powder Mills

Powder Mills is a disused gunpowder factory. Gunpowder was used for mining and to clear rocks from farmland. Following the invention of dynamite in the 1860s, and decline of the tin and copper mining industry, demand for gunpowder fell dramatically and the site was closed in 1897. The area was used as a training camp prior to the D-Day landings.
